Storing Cheese

Keep your South Cape cheese as fresh as possibly by following our guides on how to store them!

  • Store fresh cheeses like Goat’s Cheese, Fetta and Cream Cheese in a sealed container or plastic-covered bowl, with any accompanying liquid (if applicable) and store in the fridge. Fetta can also be lightly drizzled with olive oil to maintain moisture in the fridge
  • Ideally, keep Camembert and Brie cheese in its original wrapper and stored in the fridge in a separate compartment or a large, sealed plastic container. Otherwise, wrap in greaseproof or waxed paper and loosely over-wrap in plastic wrap. This way the cheese can continue to ‘breathe’ without drying out.  Make sure to replace the wrapping regularly.
  • Harder cheeses, like Parmesan, Cheddar, Havarti, Edam and Gouda can be stored refrigerated wrapped in cling film for short periods. Use within two weeks or by Best Before date.
