Platters to Go - Tips & Facts

  • In general, allow 30 grams of cheese per person, but no more than a total of 120 grams per person.
  • Remove cheese from the refrigerator at least 30 minutes before serving to allow them to come to room temperature.
  • Arrange them on the serving plate with accompaniments alongside but not touching the cheese.
  • It’s best to use a larger plate that gives guests plenty of room to manoeuvre when cutting the cheese.
  • Serve one knife for each cheese to avoid mixing flavours and some guests may prefer some types of cheese and not others.
  • To prompt guests as to how to cut the cheese, cut a ‘starting slice’ as an example
  • If transporting cheese to enjoy away from home, make sure you keep it cold with ice blocks and bring it to room temperature one hour before serving.
Classic cheese accompaniments:
  • Pear
  • Green apple
  • Grapes
  • Quince, fig, pear or plum pastes
  • Scented or truffle honey
  • Nuts (almonds, brazil nuts, cashew nuts, walnuts)
  • Pickled onions
  • Crispbreads and crackers
  • Plain bread (i.e. Baguette or Ciabatta) or Fruit bread
